Pre-Care Course
Beacon’s Pre Care Course has been assigned to provide those contemplating a career in Health and Social Care an insight into the skills and knowledge required to work in a care setting. The course will be presented over a five day period by experienced care practitioners.
The subjects covered include:
Equality and Diversity
Your role in supporting individuals in your care by acknowledging and respecting their beliefs and choices in a non-judgemental manner. Recognising the different types of abuse and the procedures in place to respond appropriately .
Health and Safety
To achieve an understanding of all elements of health and safety eg. fire safety, moving and handling. Acknowledging your responsibilities to clients, colleagues and yourself within your handling, cross contamination and risk assessments. This will promote effective health and safety practice.
Communication
To ensure that when communicating with individuals it is in a manner suitable to them. Recognising physical impairments that prove difficult for the client communication and procedures in place to seek assistance to assist the client effectively.
Understanding how sensitive information when received should be dealt with appropriately, ensuring the best interests of the client are tantamount without breaching confidentiality.
Personal Hygeine, Nutrition, Eat & Drinking
Understanding the concept of the skills needed when delivering personal care, ensuring the clients rights and choices are implemented, promoting independence and maintain dignity. How to assist your client with eating and drinking effectively when assistance is required. Role play with the course attendees will take place to enhance the understanding of this element.
Professional Development
How to achieve personal and professional development within a care setting. Instructions on building a successful care oriented CV.
