NCFE CACHE Certificate in Understanding the Principles of Dementia Care

This qualification is designed to develop learners’ knowledge and understanding of caring for individuals with dementia. It consists of seven mandatory units that provide a comprehensive understanding of dementia, including its different types, the importance of early diagnosis, person-centred approaches to care, communication and inclusion, and the use of medication to support individuals with dementia.

The qualification focuses on building the underpinning knowledge required for those working in or progressing towards dementia care roles within the health and social care sector. While it does not assess occupational competence, it supports professional development and progression into relevant employment, further education, or higher-level study.

The overall objectives of the qualification are to equip learners with a thorough understanding of the principles of dementia care and the knowledge needed to provide effective, person-centred support for individuals living with dementia.

Assessment for this qualification requires learners to complete a portfolio of evidence, which is assessed by centre staff and externally quality assured by NCFE.

As this is a knowledge-only qualification, there is no requirement for learners to complete a work placement or demonstrate competence in a real work environment.
